The School of Mr. Giovanni

Mr. Giovanni Nissirio was born in Alexandria of Egypt in 1926. His father was the Greek Michalis Nissiropoulos, whose family from Nissiros island moved to Egypt in order to work in the construction of the Suez canal, which opened in 1869. His mother was an Italian woman who had grown up in Konstantinoupolis who moved to Alexandria during the war between Italy and the Ottoman Empire, which ended in 1912. As a result of that war, Italy took the Dodecanese - included Rhodes - from Turkey.
